We get a LOT of awesome questions through our concrete coatings Facebook page, sparking some equally awesome conversations about our team, capabilities, and product benefits.

Hands-down, the one we hear most often really comes as no surprise: “How much does your concrete coating cost?”

We get it! Budget is a huge consideration, especially if you’re trying to determine whether this system is $500 or $5,000. We’re homeowners too, and totally understand the need to carefully evaluate home improvement investments.

If you’ve seen us interact on Facebook, you know that we always politely share the fact that we just can’t offer a ballpark, even if you tell us the exact dimensions of your garage and that it’s in “good overall condition.”

Why is this?

Well, it all comes down to the options available to you and the specific scope of your project. Concrete is never just concrete. It’s unique, and certain factors need to be evaluated that have a HUGE impact on the cost.

What Factors Determine the Cost of Your Concrete Coating Project?

Here’s a breakdown from Scott on our estimate process; we’ve also included some key points to consider. .

#1: Project Size

We can bundle size and scope into the same category, including:

  • General dimensions (obviously a 3-car garage costs more than a 1-car)
  • Layout! Are there any unique elements to work around, or specific design considerations that we need to consider?
  • Vertical surfaces
  • Stairways
  • What’s underneath

#2: Design/System Options

Part of the beauty of our system is that you have options to fit the specific aesthetic and performance requirements for your space. These can include:

  • Chip system
  • Grind and clear
  • Shop floor system
  • Custom blends
  • Logo (oh yeah, we can do that!)

If we had a one-size-fits-all approach to coating application, you’d miss out on these incredible options. Our estimators bring samples for you to look at and feel, opening up all the possibilities.

#3: Your Concrete’s Condition

We often hear that the concrete is in “good condition,” sometimes minus normal wear and tear. That’s helpful to know, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Here’s what we specifically look for:

  • Cracks
  • Pitting
  • Expansion joints
  • Moisture
  • Hardness testing

We use a very specialized moisture meter to determine the exact moisture content in your concrete. This is crucial! Sometimes, if you have a moisture problem, your coating will need unique products in order for our coatings to be a long-term solution— product performance and your satisfaction are really important to us.

The hardness test we mentioned above is also important! The results inform our craftsmen about which bits and diamonds to use during the grinding and prep process. These results are crucial as we’ve previously encountered situations where our tests determine that the concrete is just too soft to handle the process. We aren’t out to make sales no matter what — we want you to be informed, and for the best products/procedures to be used on your concrete (even if it’s not the right fit for us).
